Electricity Made Cheaper in Pakistan
Finally, there is great news for the public because Electricity Made Cheaper in Pakistan. NEPRA has reduced electricity prices across the country. Which has been implemented in the form of monthly adjustments. For Karachi consumers, the price has been reduced by Rs 4.3 per unit, while for the rest of the country. It has been reduced by 5 paise per unit, which will directly benefit the public in the July bills.
NEPRA has also issued two separate notifications regarding this reduction. This relief is being given to Karachiites on the basis of the April 2025 adjustment, while for the rest of Pakistan. The price of electricity has been reduced in the May 2025 adjustment. This decision will directly provide relief to millions of consumers.

It should be remembered that K-Electric had requested a reduction of Rs 4.69 per unit in the April adjustment. While CPPA had proposed an increase of 10 paise per unit in May. But NEPRA decided in favor of the public and issued a notification for the reduction in prices. This news is not only a ray of hope but also a practical step towards reducing public hardship.

Massive Relief for Karachi: Rs 4.3 Per Unit Cut
Residents of Karachi will get the biggest relief this time, as electricity has been made cheaper by Rs 4.3 per unit. This reduction has been approved for K-Electric consumers under the monthly fuel price adjustment for April 2025.
K-Electric had earlier requested NEPRA for a Rs 4.69 per unit reduction in electricity charges. While the full amount wasn’t approved, this substantial relief will still lower monthly expenses for thousands of Karachiites.
Electricity Cheaper by 5 Paisa for Rest of Pakistan
For other parts of Pakistan (excluding Karachi), NEPRA has also announced a reduction of 5 paisa per unit. This relief comes under the fuel price adjustment for May 2025. While the decrease may seem small, it still brings relief to households already dealing with inflation and rising costs.
Interestingly, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested an increase of 10 paisa per unit for May, but NEPRA instead chose to reduce the price slightly.

NEPRA Notifications for Regional Adjustments
NEPRA has issued separate official notifications for the adjustments in both Karachi and other regions. These notifications clearly outline the months for which the adjustments are being applied:
- Karachi (K-Electric): April 2025 adjustment
- Rest of Pakistan: May 2025 adjustment
This approach ensures clarity and transparency for all electricity consumers regarding their specific regions and timelines.
When Will the Reduced Rates Apply?
The reduced electricity prices will be reflected in the electricity bills for July 2025. Consumers can expect lower charges in their upcoming bills as a result of these monthly adjustments.
This move is particularly helpful for the summer season when electricity consumption is usually high due to increased use of fans, air conditioners, and coolers.

Why These Adjustments Happen
Fuel price adjustments (FPA) are common in Pakistan and are reviewed monthly by NEPRA. These changes depend on international fuel prices and the cost of producing electricity.
When fuel becomes cheaper, the savings are sometimes passed on to the consumers through these adjustments, like in this case.
Conclusion
While the reduction for the rest of Pakistan is just 5 paisa per unit, and the cut for Karachi is much bigger at Rs 4.3, both adjustments offer relief to struggling households.
In these tough economic times, any decrease in electricity rates is a welcome change for the public. The government’s step to lower electricity prices, even if slightly, shows a positive move towards easing the burden on citizens.
